Parking
Old Mill Park is located right on the Rappahannock River, and it’s a wonderful place to take a stroll or have a picnic. It also has a nice kid’s playground, pavilions, and restrooms.
It’s no secret that the park gets crowded, especially in the summer months. The city has been looking into ways to curb parking issues, and the idea of charging a fee for visitors might be one way to go about it.
The city’s director of parks, recreation, and events, Todd Brown, has presented the plan to his colleagues at City Hall. He says it is a way to reduce overcrowding and make more money for the city.
He estimates the new fee will generate $42,100 in revenue over the cost of maintaining it. It will also allow the city to hire additional attendants. The fee is set to start July 22. Whether or not it’s a success remains to be seen, but Brown says he is confident that it will be the best solution for the park and its users. Check our next area of interest here.
