The Rappahannock River Recreation Area
The Rappahannock River Recreation Area is a popular spot for families to enjoy the outdoors. Located off River Road, this park provides access to the river and a place for fishing (a VA fishing license is required). There are picnic shelters, playground equipment, and restrooms available.
The river can be used for swimming, inner tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. You can rent a boat or use one of the many outfitters located near the river to do these activities.
This park is a popular site for many of the City of Fredericksburg’s annual events, including the Fourth of July fireworks show. It also has a large playground and plenty of fields for kids to play in.
While this is not the biggest park in town, it offers great space for running, flying kites, and just enjoying the river. The park is surrounded by wooded areas and trails, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the surrounding landscape.
In addition to the park, there are several other scenic places along the river that you can explore. These include Old Mill Park, which is one of my favorite spots in the city!
Another popular spot is Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve. This is a popular birding and nature trail with a cliff overlooking the Rappahannock River. The area is home to two tidally-influenced creeks and a pristine pond that is rich in habitats for turtles, frogs, and beavers. More places to also visit by clicking here.
